Mile High Station

Denver, CO 80204
That’s YOU – the jockeys! All parents, faculty, staff, and are welcome to attend (as long as they’re 21!).
However, tickets are now SOLD OUT – please write Sonja Schuh (Sonja. Schuh@isdenver.org) to be added to the waitlist. Requests will be accepted in the order they are received, and we will respond as we are able.
Why should I come?
The stakes are high - $150K high, in fact! Come to help us raise funds for high-impact projects around the school and celebrate the ISD community.
No really – is there something specific our bidding supports?
YES – ISD is full STEAM ahead! As you may have heard, we are fortunate to have a generous family that will match up to $150,000 raised through Gala to enhance our early-stage STEAM offerings. That’s right – every dollar donated via our Live and Silent Auctions, as well as the Paddle Raise, will be matched 1:1!
This is a full 50% more than we’ve ever raised at Gala! We’ve put together some truly terrific packages to inspire your generous donations.
STEAM design space ideas
I thought the Gala was supporting a new playground this year?
You are correct – and that playground is STILL HAPPENING! In fact, we’re in the final stages of the design process. Several families have come together with commitments that cover the initial goal we aim to raise at Gala for the new K3/1st grade playground – securing at least $30K for a project that will cost over $100K.
BUT WAIT! Yes, you can STILL make a gift to the playground! We want you to support the priorities that you’re most connected to. So if you want to look at the new playground in the Fall and know that you directly helped build it, then the ‘Click to Donate’ buttons on the mobile bidding app are for you!
STEAM? Trains? What?
STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
STEAM represents the purposeful integration of creative thinking and design skills to help bring traditional studies into real-world lessons and solutions. What might this actually look like? Think expanded design labs, art spaces, and rehearsal rooms; and flexible and adaptable classrooms and furniture. Still looking for more? How about a leap forward for technology: 3-D printers, tablets for all students, Mac suite, Google Sketch Up, Lego Mindstorm, FIRST Lego League Robotics, SLR cameras and A/V equipment for multimedia productions projects. Yes – we’re hot to trot for STEAM.
But doesn’t this all require more space?
Indeed it does. Perhaps the biggest news of all is that the Peacekeeper building will soon be transformed into a fully dedicated STEAM hub. Your contributions at Gala will go directly towards supporting this strategic step for ISD.
But isn’t this what we supported with the Annual Fund?
You are correct! And we are staying the course! The priorities from the Annual Fund this year focused on STEM, Technology, outdoor experience, and campus signage and security. Notice those snazzy new bronze plaques on the building entrances? How about those slick and clear-to-read campus maps once you enter the buildings? Your Annual Fund dollars at work! Same with Technology and STEM – now they’re rolled into STEAM – as well as the playground. All donations are 100% going to these priorities, and once the renovations are done, you will be able to kick the proverbial tires (well, please don’t kick the technology) and know just what you supported.
Is this a seated dinner?
Yes and No. No and Yes. Yes – you’ll be sitting for dinner. No – we do not predetermine where every individual sits. Tickets were sold as ‘reserved’ (exclusive sponsors, grandstand table patron and infield patron) and ‘general admission’ (early bird jockeys). Tables are assigned in the reserved section and self-seated in the general admission.
I can't attend but still want to make an impact. What can I do?
Participate via mobile bidding! You can still support ISD by bidding in the silent auction via our mobile bidding site, which will go live on April 25. Stay tuned for more details on how to opt in for this opportunity and sneakily outbid your friends from afar!
Finally – Derby Theme. What should I wear?
As with years’ past, costumes are not required. But if you saw the video highlight reel, you’ll see that they’re very popular. ‘Derby Attire’ can mean seer-sucker suits, bow ties, big hats, dresses with large prints, you name it. Not into costumes? Not a problem! Cocktail attire is always appropriate.
